Soul ties…

I was just sitting here thinking about what soul ties really are and then I decided to do a bit more research. I think that everyone gets the basic gist of what they are, but I still wanted to find some biblical references. It is pretty hard since the term ‘soul ties’ is not actually in the Bible. I knew that not all soul ties are bad, but to me, a soul tie is a soul tie. Your soul is precious. In Proverbs 22 we are told to value our souls. So what I really wanted to know is if it is possible to be able discern between good and bad soul ties.

Earlier this week, I watched the BBC Three drama ‘Murdered by my Boyfriend.’ It was a real eye-opener. Not only to domestic abuse, but to soul ties as well. Domestic violence is an example of bad soul ties being formed. But how could you ever know? I was watching that show and I realised that it could happen to anyone. You never really know what a person is like until they show you. No one is born a murderer. No one is born a rapist. No one is born anything until they actually commit the act. The story showed just how strong soul ties are. Just how easy they are to form and how hard they are to break. I wanted an answer to my questions. I thought that it would be a grand answer but it really isn’t. The only way that you can avoid forming bad soul ties is to wait on God. He promises to give us the desires of our hearts. He promises to give us the power of discernment. He has the power to break bad soul ties.

One thing that I didn’t realise is that soul ties can happen between us and strangers. It finally made me realise why it is so easy for us to idolise celebrities, people who we do not even know, but know so much about. Soul ties aren’t always reciprocal. Soul ties are pretty scary things, when you start to think about it. If you have multiple soul ties, what happens to your soul?

Thank you for introducing me to this idea of ‘soul ties’ I hadn’t come across it before and will have to look into it more.
