My lactose intolerance and the Bible!

Last year I finally started to take my lactose intolerance seriously. I tried to overcome it like my wool allergy, but that just did not work. So yeah, that means no pizza or ice cream for me. I remember my cousin explaining to me why a lot of people are lactose intolerant. You see, our bodies weren’t really made to drink cows milk. Every animal drinks their own type of milk. That is why you find a lot of older people who are lactose intolerant. Our bodies don’t have the ability to break down the lactose and this has an effect on some more than others. You might be wondering why I am telling you all of this…well long story short, what I learnt is that we only need milk for so long.

The reason that I am writing this post is because I have a prayer for every single one of you reading this! I pray that you will no longer be like a baby living off of spiritual milk but that you will starve for the spiritual food that Christ has prepared for us. I pray that you will desire to grow in Christ and strengthen your relationship with Him and discover your purpose. I pray that you will experience Christ in a new way and that once you do, you won’t turn back and that you will continue to search for Him more and more each day. I pray this all in Jesus’ name, Amen x

There are three scriptures that have inspired this post and I would really encourage you to read them. They are; 1 Corinthians 3:1-4, Hebrews 5:12-14 and 1 Peter 2:1-3.

As babies, we are given milk, but it can only provide us with enough nutrients for so long. As we get older, in order for us to grow and become stronger, we need to start eating solid food. The same thing needs to happen in our spiritual life. For a while, my milk to food ratio was so off point! The bad thing about it is that I didn’t even realise. I was content in just going to Sunday service, watching Christian videos on YouTube, reading Christian blogs, listening to Christian music and just doing ‘typical Christian,’ things. However, halfway through last year I realised that although these things weren’t poisoning me, they weren’t really helping me to grow. I was simply witnessing other peoples relationships with God and not having one for myself. I was hearing about what other people had to say about God but not knowing Him for myself. I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with doing all these things because it is important for us to have the pure milk at first to help us grow, but we need to do more than the basics, we need to know God on an intimate level and be sensitive to His voice.

Knowing Him on an intimate level will enable us to discern good from evil. We are living in a world where things that are so deadly are just so shiny that it is hard to believe that it can do us any harm. We need to stop praying for temporary blessings and start praying for spiritual gifts. Christ has prepared a banquet for us and has given us the ability to eat from it, He has invited us to eat but we constantly ignore the RSVP and just decide that we will respond in our own time. We say that we will take Christ seriously when we are older, or when we start seeing more signs that the end is near. We need to just take Him seriously. Let’s stop giving Him all of these conditions. He doesn’t need to prove Himself to us. He doesn’t need to answer our prayers to for us take Him seriously.

Let’s desire to grow. Grow to a stage where the milk won’t even satisfy us any more. Where we will reach the stage where we yearn to give in to our spiritual desires and not our carnal ones. All of this food has been prepared for us, let’s not let it go to waste.

Really, really liked this. Lead me to think more deeply about developing my faith. You could say I’m at the weaning stage?! Beginning my journey on solid food now.

    1. Hey, thanks for reading and reblogging the post. I can definitely relate, the desire to grow is what leads to growth, so no matter what stage you’re at, as long as you’re progressing, it is amazing!
