Peter Pan

Peter Pan by Sho Baraka

If anything, this song has inspired this #IIPsalms series.

Me and my favourite artist are now growing apart.

– Sho Baraka

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!

– 2 Corinthians 5:17

I still remember the day when I literally cleared out my iTunes library. I was probably the self-professed number one fan of Tupac, Kid Cudi, J. Cole, Drake, Popcaan you name them, I loved them. That is why that line really hit me. As I found myself growing closer towards Christ, I found myself distancing myself from those artists, amongst others.

I love music. In my opinion, it is the greatest form of art. The combination of a vulnerable artist and a powerful beat can really hit my soul. That is why I had to be careful about what I listened to.

I realised that you have to be careful with what you feed your spirit. The more I listened to these artists, I found myself loving the world and the more that I loved the world, I found myself becoming an enemy of God (see James 4:4). God’s desire for me seemed dreary in comparison with what the world had to offer. I didn’t stop listening to those artists because they are bad in themselves. I stopped listening to them because of the effects that they can have. You can’t keep feeding your spirit with something and then act confused when it gets fat.

It just didn’t make sense any more. What was the point with filling my mind with things that I couldn’t relate to?

So I give you II Psalms. A review of songs that have influenced me in a positive light. That have challenged me and forced me to grow. Songs that have encouraged me to invest in my spiritual future. Songs that have made me me.
