The Beauty of Patience

Whilst I was away, one thing that I really had to work on was my patience. When I’m home, I’m usually in control of my time. I am able to know what I’m doing the next day, who I will most likely see, where I will go etc. But that was not the case. No week was the same. I realised that although I’m not a fan of monotony, I sure do love familiarity. I soon found myself getting annoyed. Annoyed because I was not in control of my time. Thousands of miles away from home, I couldn’t simply ‘make things happen.’ I was practically powerless and extremely uncomfortable. But out of that, I learnt one of the biggest lessons, I finally began to understand the true beauty of patience.

I finally realised that although I felt out of control, this was not because I was in unfamiliar surroundings, it was because I was and always had been. I was soon reminded of the sovereignty of God and began to witness and acknowledge that He is a God of provision. You see, it is so easy to have faith when you have plans B through to Z, but when you have no choice but to trust that God will come through for you, you really begin to see the amazing things that God can do.

It might sound silly, but God cares about you! He cares about your entire wellbeing. He doesn’t just care about your family, career, exams or whatever it is that consumes your prayer life, He cares about everything that concerns you, even the small things. Since He cares, He will take care of you.

One of most beautiful things about patience is that as you trust in God, your worries decrease and your faith is able to increase.

Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Matthew 6:20, 25-34

God doesn’t promise that there will be no trials, we are sure to have problems tomorrow. However, God will give us everything that we need, it may not be what we want but it is enough.
