Bombs, raids and airstrikes. Arrests and more surveillance. The amount of fearmongering going on at the moment. Apparently ISIS are now a threat to me. As I type this in my room, my security and life is now endangered by ISIS…lol.
I remember writing a piece over a year ago about why I don’t fear ISIS and even though things have escalated, I still stand by that statement. Since my opinion hasn’t changed, there is no point in me writing another post about it but I want to talk about a common statement that is made. “This is not real Islam.” To be perfectly honest I’m unqualified to make that statement. Without a thorough knowledge of the Quran and hadiths, how can I make such a claim?
This statement got me thinking. Imagine if this was a Christian state that was being formed. Would this be real Christianity? When the Holy Roman Empire was formed or when the Crusades and various other missionaries travelled the world to convert nations was this true Christianity? When the Christian missionaries mission was to civilise the barbarians by the use of the Bible and the gun, was this true Christianity?
When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said ‘Let us pray.’ We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land.

The more you look at history, the more you realise that nothing is new. Same script, different actors.
What is true Christianity? Many times we use Christ as our own promoter. We label things as Christian or divinely inspired when it is really just us. We have our own dreams and ambitions. The more and more I think about it, there is no way that I can look at someone and call them a true Christian. It is an internal thing. On God knows what is in their hearts. In its purest form Christianity is knowing and loving God and his creation and accepting Jesus Christ.
Come to think of it, it really is a personal and subjective relationship.
